Aliexpress 512GB chip seems genuine. Was just $10. (Rs. 2300 or so with $4 coupon) How? 🤔

I bought a 512GB chip from AliExpress before the whole shipping fiasco, and it finally arrived last Friday. It was just 10 bucks and a never heard of Chinese brand. Just bought it to burn the new user coupon.

Throughout these days, I copied a lot of files to fill it up to the brim, and then tested for corruption by playing and copying them back, formatting in different File systems and trying write speeds etc. Doesn't seem to have any issue. It certainly does have around 482GB of space, and write speeds are around 60-80Mbps even when it's like 450GB full. Every copied file has data in tact, so seems like the capacity is genuine. I did several write cycles, mounting unmounting etc just to confirm.

I am quite used to those fake 8GB, 16GB chips programmed to look like 2TB and all, where writing fails once you hit the real cap. I imagined this would be the same, but to my surprise, it does seem genuine. Feels like an incredible deal for just Rs. 2300.

For now I'm just filling it up with TV series and other replaceable files and using it in my phone, lest it got corrupted soon. However, have to say it's certainly looking genuine and usable for a long time.

Does anyone know how this is possible? Did I just get lucky or do they genuinely sell good capacity chips at dirt cheap prices? With current dollar rate, brand chips of 512GB are like 15 times more expensive.

works well. these ssd's are there for selling here also, with brand names like memory ghost, fire etc.. works well no issue

I was fully prepared to that. However, as you know most chips and ssds have a bath tub like failure curve. They either fail early, or fail after a long time. It rarely happens in between.

I'm still only keeping it filled with replaceable stuff like movies and TV series, so if it fails, no real data will be lost. Have to say it looks good though. Nowadays even a 16GB chip costs something like Rs. 2300 I paid for this, so having 32 times capacity is always a bonus.

I think so too. Some dude said these are production pirated stuff from China. (Name brand companies delegate production to these companies in China, and the real value is just in the brand. The same production companies just sell some non brand stuff made in same production lines for their workers at a dirt cheap rate. They get into aliexpress and get sold everywhere)

Whatever you are smoking, just try a lower dose.
