The idea isn't particularly new—Asus showed off an ExpressCard-based external graphics module for notebooks at CES last month—but The Inq says AMD's design will rely on the recently-completed external PCI Express specification. External PCIe supports external PCIe x16 connections with the same bandwidth as internal PCIe x16 slots, which could theoretically allow notebook users to use the fastest graphics cards out there with no bottlenecks. AMD's external solution is code-named Lasso, and The Inq suggests that it will be available with the company's upcoming R600 graphics processors. The site goes on to say that AMD may even offer external CrossFire dual-card setups before the summer.</p></blockquote><p></p>
