Throughout the recent past the government carried out a process of computerizing details of families in Sri Lanka and the project was carried out by the Ministry of Defense. It was announced that details of families would be collected and would be stored on a district basis. It was announced that members of families would be expected to fill in form 23/1 and the computerizing of details would be according to the details given in the relevant form. It was also announced that the process would be handled by ‘Global Net.’ The Police was deployed to inspect residences according to details given in 23/1 form and was done on a directive from the Ministry of Defense.
It was said the process of computerizing the details were carried out throughout the past and vouchers have been already prepared that indicates that ‘Global Net’ has been paid Rs.10 per family. The person who is said to have coordinated the process is one Janaka Mudalige.
The surprise is ‘Global Net’ the firm the Ministry of Defense paid Rs.10 per family for computerizing their details does not exist anywhere. There is no address either. Investigations carried out by the police have revealed there is no such firm as ‘Global Net.’
As such, several issues as to who owned the firm and who directed it, who were in the director board, who is ‘Janaka Mudalige,’ who coordinated the process with ‘Global Net,’ Who was paid by the Ministry of Defense, What is the address of ‘Global Net’ come up.
It is now revealed that the Secretary of Defense is connected with the whole affair and an attempt is being made to cover up the whole process. It is Gotabhaya Rajapakse, as the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, who is responsible for the money transactions of the process. However, he has rejected providing information regarding the project. Hence, there is a justifiable doubt that Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse is involved in the large scale racket of pilfering public money.
