Directors of the company Mr. B. A. C. Abeywardena and Ms. K. M. D. R. S. Jayathilaka signed the agreement on behalf of RTEC Mobile Lanka (Private) Limited. Mr. Abeywardena has played a major role in the development and modernization of Sri Lanka’s telecommunication. Electroteks is the brainchild of Mr. Abeywardana, who started as a Telecommunications Engineer with Sri Lanka Telecom after his graduation in Electrical Engineering from the University of Peradeniya. He rose to the rank of Chief Engineer of Sri Lanka Telecom within a few years and subsequently set up Electroteks Ltd. The company was incorporated in 1983 and went into Design and Manufacture of 1+1 local loop multiplexing units in 1984 and by 1997, over 15,000 units were installed island-wide. Electroteks pioneered Radio Link based automation of banking sector in 1988 by first linking three branches of Sampath Bank via radio link as a pilot project. The success of the project initiated a process of banking automation via teller terminals and ATMs - one of the firsts in South Asia. In 1990 Electroteks was recommended by a World Bank consulting committee to carry out the ATM installations of Bank of Ceylon, the largest banking network in Sri Lanka. Electroteks established their US offices and US retail service for Electroteks Phone Club in 1998 and set up Offices in Canada, UK and Australia the following year. Electroteks Ltd also launched a 100% Sinhala-oriented international Television channel ‘TVLanka’, using the latest technology
