How many of you have properly watched our Galaxy from the Earth?;) You got to see it to believe the splendour. I have seen it from the Death Valley National Park - Nevada, The Grand Canyon National Park - Arizona, Banff National Park - Canda and a few places in Australia (Coonabarabran) & Tasmania, and from the NZ South Island. Most of these places it's weather dependent. The best was in Chile, the Elqui Valley. Nowhere to beat this place and that's why the world's most astronomical infrastructure is installed here. Even the ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) is here , but they allow you in only during the daytime. :( Night time is reserved for Professional Astronomers & Astronomy students. But there are smaller places with decent telescopes you can visit at night. Even the naked eye view is quite simply stunning. The skies are absolutely clear. It's bounding the Atacama desert and mostly good weather. You cannot watch the Milky way in it's glory from a City area. Light pollution is the major factor. Also additionally, dust & smoke also contributes.
