Long ago new migrants get the dole as soon as they set foot here. If I can remember correctly, I got my first dole (part) payment (in 1990)within 3/4 days after registering with social security. But later it's not payed for the first 2 years.  One difference between now, and then, was there was no so many different visa classes. All came here on PR, and after 2 years you can apply for citizenship. Now everything changed.</blockquote>
