The joint opposition called on the Commissioner of Elections to deploy the army to provide security to polling stations. The Joint opposition made the plea based on the theory that there was a plan to prevent people from casting their votes at the coming presidential election JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a media conference held at the common opposition candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka’s office yesterday that there was a plan by the ruling party to prevent the voters in the areas which are favorable towards General Fonseka from casting their votes. He said the plan also includes to ensure that as many voters as possible in the areas which are favorable towards President Mahinda Rajapaksa to cast their votes. He said there is a plan is to create violence in the areas which are favorable towards the opposition candidate and create unrest so that voters would keep away from polling booths. Mr. Dissanayake explained that the police have not been able to control the violence that had already erupted in some areas because of political interference. “Therefore it is essential to deploy the army to ensure security,” he said. He said the opposition would make an official request when they meet the polls chief on Tuesday. Mr. Dissanayake who threw a challenge at the President Rajapaksa’s camp called on them to disclose the truth regarding the meeting between LTTE supporter Emil Kanthan and a VIP from the government recently.. He charged that Emil Kanthan has been given the task of handling LTTE assets and international affairs after KP’s arrest. “What has this VIP got to do with this LTTE associate in this circumstances?,” he asked. He said people have the right to know the truth about the issue. The JVP MP explained that The VIP may have the right to associate with the youth of this country but he does not have the right to do the same with terrorists. Referring to the JNP MP’s Mohamed Muzamil’s drama, he said the JNP should complain with the Bribery commission and if they alleged that he was offered money to join General Fonseka. He said they should also hand over the money which they claim he was given. Mr. Dissanayake said the money should be confiscated through legal means. DM ayoo apita mara wada karan na bari wenawa :( hora amathi ................................
