The 2009 Defence budget is estimated at 177.06 billion rupees, 6.4 percent higher than the estimated 166.45 billion rupees to be spent in 2008. This can be considered as an essential expenditure for future stability of the country.The government is expected to hold elections to the Western and Central Provincial Councils by February next year (2009).The dissolution of the two Councils will follow during the date 10th of November to 12th November after the conclusion of the government's Budget for 2009 next Thursday (6), reliable sources said.The proposed budget also includes increased allocations for road development, health, education, electricity and energy, agriculture, estate infrastructure development, and nation building.Upcoming budget will allocate 77% more funds compared to 2008 while the deficit being managed at 5.8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product.</blockquote>
