Home Automation is a way of making most of our day to day life tasks easier by making electrical n mechanical appliances interact with each other. The best method of home Implementation as I suggest to use in the Sri Lankan Environment, would be the X10 technologies. In this way we do not need to have any wires trailing across floors, walls and ceilings. instead all the wiring has been already done...!! yes... X10 technology relies upon the current wire's tht you have already wired inside your house...!! all it needs to tap the Neutral Line.... which according to the Sri Lankan Wiring method, is a common to almost all outlets and sockets. It is essential to connect a Filter to bridge out any disturbance from your neighbors neutral line..... So how does X10 fix in...?? Simple.... All we need is to replace all the Switches, Plug Points, Dimmers, Lighting Fixtures, etc with X10 Devices instead. Despite been easier said than done, the complexity of wiring the X10 Modules, does require a person who has some knowledge in wiring X10 technologies would be best..... otherwise a bit of study on wiring n basics is good enough.... Once the X10 modules are wired up n configured by assigning a special Address (Like an IP Address) according to the Manual, we now need to instal a X10 Modem, which connects via USB to the computer and to one of the power outlets near the PC (CM-11 Modem of an Example) then we cn use a software which will configure each X10 module and give as an inituitive GUI to work along with..... in this way we have total schedule of controling the X10 modules and anything fixed to it.... Other than this, we cn have door n window's to open automatically, security n survielance systems, controling blinds, waterring plants automatically... setting the AC to switch on moments before you enter your home, monitering wht other family members are doing, home entertainement control through out the house, automatically wash and dry cloths, automatic survey of items out of stock in the kitchen, auto vacume's... a hot coffee ready, and a hot tub waiting for you when you get up in the morning, all voice mail screened..... calls sent to voice message without interupting your fav movie, checking who rang the bell without even leaving your post........ the options are unlimited.....!!! (I'v done a complete and still conducting reviews on home automation an technology.......If you want anymore infor please feel free to drop an e-mail..... LOL...... ) varanga@sltmobitel.lk
