[QUOTE="rapa, post: 1196974, member: 212"] Sri Lanka did not ban the Tigers all these years since she wanted to keep the door of the negotiations open. The mechanism for the negotiations was the so-called ceasefire agreeent. But now that the CFA is annulled no purpose is served by keeping the LTTE de-proscribed. But today the LTTE has been proscribed by most of the world's leading countries including those that have expressed "concern" over the Sri Lanka Government's abrogation of the so-called ceasefire agreement Hence it is high time the government decided to ban the LTTE on January 16 the same day on which CFA abrogation becomes officially effective. Then Ranil Wickremesinghe can repeat his clownish behaviour not only by opposing the ban but even calling for a fresh CFA which will (if signed) again turn out be a mere scrap of paper. We are sure that the government will not be so foolish. The Wickremesinghe regime turned a blind eye to the 10,000 odd CFA violations by the Tiger terrorists and yet has the nerve to sing the praises of this meaningless and illegal agreement. The UNP' condemnation of the abrogation of the CFA and turning MP T. Maheswaran's funeral into an anti-government protest has further exposed the pathetic level to which Wickremesinghe and company have fallen into. They had no hesitation in pointing a finger of accusation at the government for Maheswaran's death but they did not stage the same emotional display over Minister D.M. Dassanayake's killing but had the nerve to condemn the abrogation of the CFA, which only went to served the agenda of the LTTE terrorists who have been responsible for most of the assassinations of government and Opposition politicians in the country. While MP Maheshwaran's assassination on January 1 compelled the President to abrogate the CFA, Minister DM Dassanayake's killing strengthened the demand to ban the Tiger outfit. Except for the LTTE, Democratic Tamil parties like TULF, EPDP and PLOTE have supported the government's decision to abrogate the CFA. Hence there is no reason for them to oppose a government move re-impose the ban on the LTTE the despicable track record of which has been known to the world for the past 25 years. The LTTE was once proscribed but in order to prod it to come to the negotiation table the ban was lifted. The LTTE instead made use of the de-proscription not to make a head way at the negotiating table but to strengthen its fighting capabilities. Needless to say the LTTE is supported and funded largely by the World Tamil Movement (WTM) based in the West. The WTM and its Tamil Nadu counterpart The Tamil Liberation Front have plans to merge Tamil Nadu with so called Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka to realized their long cherished dream of a Greater Tamil Nadu perhaps encompassing a large part of Kerala and even the Maldives. Sri Lanka 's defence forces have the capability to destroy the LTTE and eliminate its leader Prabhakaran. At the same time we have to brace ourselves to rake up the challenge of foreign LTTE sympathisers who will make every attempt to undermine – with the assistance of local traitors - the government's endeavour to neutralize the Tigers.
