The Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka approved the construction of Diamond Tower. It is set to be the tallest building in Sri Lanka when it is completed in May 2011. The tower will be situated at the Darley Road and will be overseeing the Beira Lake. Construction is expected to commence in May this year. The Diamond Tower will be an unique addition to the city of Colombo as it will include the first ever multi-storied tower with residential apartments, serviced apartments and commercial space, all in one. Carlos Ott, Chief Architect of the project said “we tried to create a building that is iconic and distinguishable in the skyline of the city of Colombo”. The building will reach a height of 246 meters which will comprise of 59 floors with an area of 1.5 million square feet. The first ever tower township will also feature 177 luxury residential apartments on 19 floors along with 6 penthouses and 128 serviced apartments on another 8 floors. The tower also boasts of ample parking that would comprise of 9 floors. The US $ 150 million BOI approved project is a public-private partnership between Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T), India’s largest engineering conglomerate and the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).
