I used to encode a lot of DVDs before I had ADSL. But every once in a while, I get the need to encode videos. I used to encode DVD to DivX, 2-passes using AutoGK maximum quality 1/3 DVD size on my old AthlonXP 2600+. It took about 1.25-2 times the length of the movie. (i.e. if the movie is 2 hours, it would take about 2.5 hours to 4 hours depending on the complexity of the frames). My new CPU (Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz) can do it in about 1/3 to 1/4 the time of my AthlonXP. Still this is about 45min to 1.25hours. If I could overclock my CPU to 3GHz, I would be able to finish the job in 25min to 45 min. This is a big amount of time savings if we do this constantly. If I have a TV Card (I have one, but it's not good, so I haven't plugged it in) and a good antenna or cable TV, then encoding will be all my life. Overclocking the CPU alone would make the jobs finish in 60% the time. I also do Maya rendering, though I haven't done it in quite a while. 3GHz Core 2 Duo will fly against an 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo. Remember, this is not just 1.13Ghz - this is 2x1.13GHz (dual core <img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/happy.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":)" title="Happy    :)" data-shortname=":)" />)</blockquote>
