As well as new features for us regular users, the AOSP releases have also given the custom ROM community something new to sink their teeth into. CyanogenMod coders began busying away on the next instalment of their custom ROM, CM12, at the end of last week.Although work has only just begun on a handful of devices, development is apparently already coming along well. However, it is important to note that not every device is usable as a daily driver at this point, there’s still a lot of work yet to be completed.As a result, the team suggests that Nightlies won’t be likely to appear until sometime towards the end of the month or possibly in early December, as there are features that are yet to be implemented with the new code-base. Some existing features from CM11 are also being redesigned and spruced up to fit in with Google’s new Material Design guidelines.CyanogenMod isn’t sure exactly how many handsets will successful make the leap from CM11 to CM12 at this stage.
