After nearly three decades of war our Security Forces today ended what had been Asia’s longest running Civil War! As Sri Lankans, citizens of one nation, despite our Differences in Politics,Economic Vision & Foreign Policy, this makes us all Proud as people of one nation. Yet I know for a fact that all this came at a great Loss…Parents lost their children,Children lost their fathers,Wive’s lost their husbands,Some lost their best friends…Eventhough the Government never really gave any numbers with regard to this, people at the war front confirm the Immense losses. For the past few weeks,as I have taken part in many discussions in Elakiri,I’ve noticed as much as these sacrifices were made for a stronger & a better Sri Lanka, the opinions of some does not have the same ideas of those people who made the ultimate sacrifices. There were Soldiers, soldiers from different races(Sinhala,Tamil,Muslim,Bhurger),soldiers who were Buddhist,Catholic,Muslim,Hindu..etc,there were soldiers who supported the Government,UNP,JVP..Despite all of their differences, they fought for eachother, they died together, they never cared about all these differences when they made the ultimate sacrifice! Yet,us,the people Chatting on Ela Kiri, people who did not die, people who never went to the war front are quite arrogant in every sense as we argue with people,as we fight with eachohter,as we humiliate other people…is that what the soldiers died for?? So that we can disagree on every single opinion,& humiliate our own people just because they have a different political background or a different political vision??? The point is,whether we like it or not,Politics have always been a part of us & will continue to be so.The political differences has soo much of an affect on us,that we are willing to Humiliate other people just for their different opinions! However most of us forget that by doing so,not only we humiliate the person we want to but also ourselves as individuals! You will never find all the people agreeing on one single issue, there will always be differences..but that is what makes us think of the resolution to that particular issue in a much broader way! This should be the the dawn of a new era…not the era for some people to boast on about how they were supporting the Armed forces online. That is not how it should be done…It is our responsibility to take care of those families of the war heroes…Stop shouting & boasting & start doing something better for them…this day is not for people to boast..this day is for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for you & for me… Don’t just be restricted to words, but prove it by action. Acceptance is the start of a healing process. This country does not belong to a few,but to all of us! For some this might be a pile of rubbish, but I know that Elakiri consist of a large Intelligent Community who prefer to read & remain quiet. This is for them… Afterall, Actions speak louder than words.
