    @imhotep do you know anything about this?
    It was News everywhere.... The 323 virus samples that went missing from the state virology laboratory was in 2021 after a freezer storing the samples broke down. But the security breach was discovered only in August 2023.
    Several nasties have been there including Hantavirus, Hendra virus and Lyssavirus (rabies)
    If these were thrown in the garbage bin they would have degraded....
    eg: Typical half life of Hendra virus at room temperature of 22 deg C is about 50 hours.

    If someone stole them and hiding inside a freezer, then it's a different story.
