He wasadmitted to this so-called hospital on July 6, 2006with a historyof acute cough and cold, chest tightness followed bybreathingdifficulty. After we consulted Dr. Praveen Gupta -Pulmonologist -the patient was given bed No.6006. He wasdischarged on July 8,after two days of treatment.Before his discharge, on July 7, blood sampleswere taken fromhim for various tests. But none of these were giveneven on the dayhe was discharged. At the time of his discharge theward nursementioned that the test results would be availablefor collectiononly on July 9 and the filarial antibody tests wouldbe available ina week's time.However on July 10, as Channa was againexperiencing chesttightness, I phoned the Apollo Hospital and made anappointment tosee Dr. Gupta. I showed him the medicine, which thehospital nursehad given the patient on the doctor's prescription.I did itmerely to cross check whether the hospital had givenmy husband thecorrect drugs since we were not sure whether thenurse had made amistake. Dr. Gupta's not-so-polite response wasthat he was only aconsultant and it was not a part of his job to checkthe medicines(even though he had prescribed them). He told us togo to apharmacy to check the medicines. His consultancyfee per visit isRs.1000!Since my husband was continuously complainingabout his chesttightness, we then consulted a cardiologist, Dr.Tripti Dep whowanted me to collect his blood reports, which weresupposed to beready for collection on July 9. The doctor saidthat she could notproceed without the reports.However at the collection counter we were toldthat they hadreceived no such reports from the laboratory andwanted me to returnthe next day (July 11) with my husband. Thisinformation totallycontradicted what the ward nurse told us at the timethe patient wasdischarged from hospital. After I mentioned thisfact,The staff at the collection counter crosscheckedwith thehospital laboratory and found that it had receivedno such bloodsamples from the relevant ward on July 7th.Thereafter theExecutive Operation (bearing employment No.1820) Ms.Vedavthi wantedmy husband to give fresh blood samples and assuredus that she woulddo the tests within 30 minutes, whereas earlier wewere told thatsuch tests needed more than three days.When we complained to the hospital's AssistantVice PresidentDr. Rana Mehta, Nursing Director Ms. Costa and theMatron theirresponse was that Dr. Praveen Gupta had neverprescribed the takingof blood samples( even though it has been originallyprescribed byhim), which Dr. Tripti wanted to be taken. Thethree of themclaimed that the whole matter was a technical erroron the part ofthe nurse on duty at the time. However when weasked them give thesame answer in writing they refused to do so.To add insult to injury Mrs Costa (DirectorNursing) has alreadybilled us for the missing blood samples too, despiteour pleas towhich she responded with foul language. When wewere leaving theyshouted, ``you go to town and shout at us but itwill have no effecton our hospital!''This whole episode is clear proof that this`hospital' has anursing staff, which has not received even basictraining.We have already made a complaint to theNarahenpita Police onthis matter.In Greek mythology Apollo is a god. But in thissupposedhospital it means demons!</blockquote>
