Thanks for posting this, here's my 2 cents on the Professor's view.. What he mentioned about the colonial period of English is so true, I think at that time it was a game of getting every Sri Lankan especially Sinhalese to get into the English culture so English could rule without a problem... but that didn't happen ofcourse, and they always bought their religion wherever they went, they used it cleverly for their advantage actually I personally dont blame Catholics for this, because it is the use of Christianity in a way to gain unfair advantage is what we should eradicate, If Jesus were alive he'd commit suicide seeing the things that Church did to not only in those country where they (Catholics) colonized but also the world over, this I believe is not true Christianity.. Christianity was a mere pawn to get others to listen to church and through church to promote their hidden agendas and politics! And I also agree with Professor's view on Sinhalese people, that they are very easily fooled, not because they are stupid just because we Sinhalese sometimes just can't say NO to someone's face! If the professor says just because someone attends private universities that would turn the person into an anti-Sinhalese I dont agree with that (I noticed he didn't really gave a clear answer there, he said there's good and bad), I myself is someone who has a British degree I admire good things from west, I'm not afraid to give credit to people who deserves it, during my time of study no one ever spoke about English culture or religion infact knowing English did make me proud about my race, my country because such knowledge also gives you the opportunity to compare, criticize the rest of the world with what your grew up, and sometimes we saw that what's being accepted in the West only recently has been in our cultures for 1000's of years. And finally I hope the professor will turn his attention to the next worse thing that has been growing in Sri Lanka for the past 2 or 3 decades, this has been silent for a while but getting stronger by the day... THE INDIAN INVASION of the minds, culture, economy of Sri Lankans, I'm sure after the WAR India will cook up something or step up its operations in Sri Lanka... I think this is a MUST when discussing about Sri Lanka's future after the WAR!!! India is just getting too close for comfort now!! P.S: Sorry my reply was too long
