If you look at the flow  of fluids through the organism as being its 'pulse' then a plant is dead  if it no longer has a pulse: sucks up water from the soil. Plants DO  'breathe', during the day, when there is sunlight, they take in CO2/O2  and give out O2/CO2. At night they take in only O2 and give out only  CO2. Seeds are dormant living things, awaiting the right conditions to  kick-start into growing. Vegetables were alive until we robbed them of  minerals to sustain their life. </blockquote>
