Thousands of revellers joined in the celebration as Dubai  ushered in the New Year by reclaiming the world record of holding the  biggest fireworks display.This was just twice as big and twice  as long as the fireworks that marked the 2008 opening of the iconic  hotel, Atlantis The Palm, which had claimed an entry into the Guinness  Book of World Records. The fireworks on the midnight of Dec.31, 2013  broke the world record for the biggest display of such an event.Dubai  continued to dazzle the world with its colourful New Year's Eve Gala at  Downtown Dubai too. An experience of a lifetime, the spectacular  fireworks display at Burj Khalifa, underscored its credentials as the  most popular New Year's celebration across the globe. The gala  at Downtown Dubai significantly added to the city's civic pride and gave  boost to tourism, hospitality and retail sectors, as visitors came from  all over the world.The venue, which hosted over 1.7 million  visitors from around the world at the New Year celebrations a year ago,  had tight security arrangements this year. Entry to the viewing area was  open only for families, who had to adhere to strict rules. Several  families with toddlers in strollers and carrying food items were not  allowed to enter the venue.However, there were several other  venues open for all. Impressive display of fireworks at other Dubai  landmarks like Burj Al Arab and Dubai Festival City further underlined  Dubai's reputation as the must-visit destination to usher in the New  Year.The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai had made  remarkable arrangements as the night is usually marked by intense  traffic movement. The arrangements included 24-hour operation of the  Dubai Metro, free bus-ride around the key venues, and provision of  special cruises for revellers to watch the fireworks in Dubai.<img src="http://gulftoday.ae/uploads/images/2014/01/01/281214_2.jpg?idd=01_01_2014_15:07:36" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" />Revellers  in large numbers also thronged the popular venues in Sharjah - Al Qasba  and Al Majaz Waterfront, to celebrate the arrival of New Year. They  watched the countdown illuminate from the Sharjah Fountain followed by  dazzling firework shows that made it a night to remember.In Abu  Dhabi, fireworks were held along the front of the Emirates Palace hotel  to mark the occasion. Several thousand people gathered near the majestic  hotel to witness a very impressive midnight show that continued for  five minutes.Even when it comes to bidding goodbye, the  UAE knows how to say it in style. Dubai did it in a glittering fashion.  It was all about six minutes, 400 locations, 100km shoreline and  400,000 fireworks.The performance required 100  computers to synchronise the pyrotechnics, along with a choreographed  musical soundtrack.
