The bomb was concealed in a bag of vegetables. A civilian had tipped off the Mirihana Police on this suspicious bag. The bomb disposal unit of the army was immediately informed. When they reached the bag to defuse the bomb. it had been timed to blast in 10 minutes.  The army bomb disposal unit  defused it preventing a disaster.  The Delkanda Sunday fair is usually crowded on sunday morning and noon. If the bomb had been blast the victims would have been hundreds of innocent civilians. However the vigilance of the civilian prevented the disaster. The vigilance of the civilians prevented disasters that could have taken place due to tiger terrorist activities. It was a tip - off given by a civilian that enabled the Security Forces to find and defuse a claymore mine bomb weighing 20 Kg, concealed in a garden at Sri Skanda Devala road at Obeysekarapura, Rajagiriya last 26 June at noon. On 8 June a tip - off from a civilian enabled the Police to find and defuse a claymore mine at Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha, Maligawatta Colombo near the B. Jayathilaka Vidyalaya and Police quarters. On 13 June a claymore mine weighing 15 kg, concealed among the Vetakege Bushes Station Road at Wellawatta Colombo was found on a tip - off given by a civilian. If the bomb had blasted near the crowded railway station the human toll would have been very high.On 03 February information given by a civilian led the security forces to recover a claymore mine at Old Bodhiraja Mawatta, Colombo.Above are a  few instances where terrorist attempts targeting civilians were foiled due to the vigilance of civilians and their cooperation extended to the Security Forces. However there were many instances wher a large numbers of innocent civilians were killed by bombs placed by tiger terrorists.</blockquote>
