A ten-member Indian delegation backed by the Indian government has arrived in Anuradhapura to receive the sapling that is to be planted in the new Buddha Udyana being created in Patna. The Indian delegation reportedly plans to brief the Sri Lankan government on their plans on Buddha Jayanthi celebrations. According to the Mahavamsa, the Sri Maha Bodhi in Sri Lanka was planted in 288 BC, making it the oldest tree of any kind. It is said to be the Bo Tree under which the Gothama Buddha attained Enlightenment. A sapling of Sri Maha Bodhi has also been planted in the Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi. [/QUOTE]
