Message: <blockquote data-quote="ibnanv" data-source="post: 15930434" data-attributes="member: 218596">Yesterday, Eurocom announced the launch of the world's first 12-core, 24-thread, compact mobile server which can be deployed without the need for a server room.   <img src="http://media.bestofmicro.com/8/B/411131/original/EurocomLid.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" />  Although not meant to replace traditional servers, Eurocom's Panther 5SE Mobile Server supercomputer-class laptop  is "designed for server-on-the-go use" and supports VMware ESXi 5.1,  Red Hat 6.4 Enterprise, Microsoft Server 2012 and other network  operating systems.   The mobile server weighs in at 12.1 lbs and includes a keyboard,  display (1920x1080), touchpad, fingerprint reader, and a Kensington lock  port in one compact unit that can fit into a single carrying bag.    The Panther 5SE is powered by an Intel Xeon E5-2697 processor, and  according to Eurocom, it can "boost performance by up to 50% over  previous generations while also offering increased energy efficiency."   "The Panther 5SE Mobile Server is perfect for organizations  relocating operations that require fast network setup to eliminate staff  downtime with overhead associated with traditional Server Rooms.  Technically there is no server room required to get your organization or  workgroup up and running. Startup companies can have an entire network  server, for 20-50 users, running in one box. We have customers who use  our mobile servers as backup in case their production server goes down,  they can load the virtual machine on to the mobile server for production  purposes while the main production server is down. The laptop includes an Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet port; additional LAN ports can be added using an internal ExpressCard slot or an external Magma Express expansion box. The server comes with a swappable lithium-ion battery pack that is  used as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and provides about an hour  of backup power. The 300W power supply is external.
