[QUOTE="manjudammi, post: 11923423, member: 17562"] Sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, mediafire and depositfile are not working in india from last many days. In order to protect the copyrights of the software, as well as enforce strict policies to prevent the video piracy, the Department of Telecom (DOT) of India has issued a statement declaring its strict “no” to the file sharing websites aback on 20th July, 2011. Why India banned File sharing websites? The measure was taken in response to the Reliance BIG Pictures’ appeal in the Delhi High Court requesting the ban on the piracy of their newly released movie “Singham”. News reports came that there were even notices distributed to the ISP’s requesting them to keep a watch to ensure that any piracy downloads are reported. Which ISP’s have banned File sharing websites? The major IPS’s in India like Reliance, Airtel and MTNL were under pressure from the Telecom department’s orders and the notices from the court. As it is a very big task to monitor the ISPs they have instead chosen to block the video upload/download sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, MediaFire and DepositFiles. “No official Ban from DOT” However, the ban on these sites was effective only for few hours. After that the ban was lifted out. There was no official statement from any of the ISPs regarding the ban. Though the ISPs can ban the file sharing sites, the users can bypass the ban with proxies (For instance using the Opera Turbo in the Opera browser will enable you to bypass the proxy) and access their favorite file sharing sites. Banning the sites is a sort of violation of the internet consumer rights. Just for the sake of the interests of few personnel and to prevent access to few people, it is not appropriate for DoT to ban the entire service. ISP’s which do not put the ban One other interesting aspect is that the users of the Tata Photon Plus and DoCoMo 3G were still able to access the banned sites without any issues, though Reliance 3G and all its internet service providers have completely banned the file sharing websites. List of File Sharing Websites which are banned by Department of Telecom (DOT), India:- Ø Megaupload.com Ø Mediafire.com Ø Megavideo.com Ø VideoBB.com Ø Novamov.com Ø Movshare.net Ø Rapidshare.com Ø Putlocker.com Ø Hotfile.com Ø Fileserve.com Ø Filesonic.com Ø Filesonic.in Ø Depositfiles.com Ø Wupload.com People’s point of view over banning of file sharing websites:- There was anger expressed by the users on banning of these services by the ISPs as they were unable to access their favorite sites for few hours for downloading the content from these sites. People have already started searching for ways which will let them to overcome this kind of ban, if any, in future, so that they can seamlessly continue accessing these sites, without any issues.
