Man Utd to give blessing for Pereira Olympic call-up Manchester United are set to allow Andreas Pereira to play for Brazil at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 20-year-old, who was one of the Selecao’s star players in their run to the final of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, has made it clear to the club that he is keen to be a part of the Brazilian selection for the tournament on home soil at this summer’s sporting jamboree. However, with the Olympics taking place between August 5 and 21, there has been concern from the attacker that United would look to prevent him from representing his country due to the clash of dates with the beginning of the new Premier League season, which gets underway on August 13. But Goal understands that United will hold a meeting with Pereira in the coming days, during which they will give their permission for the player to skip the start of the season in order to take part in the Olympics.Pereira is also hoping to gain further clarity on his position at the club following a frustrating 2015-16 campaign on a personal level. Despite his excellent form last summer, first at the Under-20 World Cup and then during United’s summer tour of the USA, the former PSV youth product has been limited to just four substitute appearances for Louis van Gaal's stuttering side in the Premier League this term. Pereira has been linked with a number of possible loan moves over the course of the season, but the club were quick to block a temporary switch in January in spite of pleas from the player himself for more game-time in a bid to cement his place in Brazil’s Olympic squad.“I don’t know if United want to loan me out but I’m working hard for opportunities,” he told GloboEsporte in January. “It’s their decision. I’m focused on doing my job for United, and of course I want to be seen by those in Brazil. I need to play more and get more chances. It is a big dream of mine to play in the Olympics.” While his lack of chances at United have halted his development at club level, he is still highly likely to be selected by Dunga for the predominantly Under-23 panel for the event this summer.
