Only six players had previously claimed the award more than once since the inception of the Premier League in 1992-93 and, in doing so, Kane is following in the footsteps of Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba and Van Persie.  Despite the forward’s efforts, which were complicated by two spells out with ankle problems, forcing him to miss eight fixtures, Tottenham could only finish runners-up in the Premier League behind Chelsea.</blockquote>
