Message: <blockquote data-quote="shiran24" data-source="post: 4074433" data-attributes="member: 161365"> that is correct. that is about culture. not about religion. if you are in usa u must be asimilated to that culture. otherwise you wouold be alienated. and after getting so you cannot protest against americans saying they are not treating you well. likewise if one is living in sri lanka he must be asimilated to sri lankan culture.  american culture is christian as it must be (not the religion i mean culture). that is why obama is giving his oath with the aid of a bible. likewise sri lankan culture is sinhala budhist (not religion again) the catholics in sri lanka must be apprecioated cos they have been assimilated to sri lankan culture. they are not behaving as portugeese catholics but sinhala budhist catholics. they are catholics in religion and sinhala budhit in culture. the tamils would have done it easily if not for some of their leaders. and i must emphasize. all the citizens have equal rights as citizens in sri lanka.  but, there are some significancies. we use lion flag. there is a sinhala national anthem. and we say jayamangala gatha at independent day (i went to a catholic school. i never found a catholic opposing to such things. that speaks volumes for their understanding)....meaning the significant culture in sri lanka is sinhala budhist culture (it is not dominating on others. it is merely significant.)</blockquote>
