There's a LED on the motherboard that lights up when you plug it into the PSU and switch it on, see whether it lighted up2. Listen to your HDD carefully, check for any unusual sound3. Replace your HDD, or hook up a secondary one one and check in the BIOS the motherboard detects it or not4.
