Q) What realisation in Harry Potter blew your mind the most? A) That Snape’s dislike of Harry probably has a lot to do with the possibility that, as a Legilimens, he can sense the Dark Lord in Harry without knowing why, so he thinks Harry is evil. That would explain why he put Draco up to using a magical snake against Harry - to test whether he was a Parselmouth. Snape whispers in Draco’s ear before Draco casts Serpensortia, and the way it’s written it’s pretty clear he suggested that spell. When Harry initially does nothing Snape says that he will get rid of the snake, but then Harry shouts at it in Parseltongue, and Snape gives him a “shrewd and calculating” look. Now, it could be coincidence, although I would have thought there were at least hundreds of better duelling spells he could have suggested. Or Dumbledore could have asked him to introduce that spell, because Dumbledore wanted to know if Harry was a Parselmouth. Or Snape could have been wondering that himself. Either way, if he’s already aware that Harry feels like the Dark Lord, that will reinforce the impression.
