Police in Batticaloa has relaxed helmet rules, facilitating the Muslims going for Jumma prayers. “It is compulsory to wear helmets when riding motorcycles. However, if you are riding to attend Jumma prayers on Fridays in Kattankudy between 12 noon and 2 p.m. it is not necessary to wear helmets,” Batticaloa DIG V. Indran said. He was speaking at a meeting held at Kattankudy Jami-ul-lapreen mosque. “Law is for every one, however, on humanitarian grounds, considering the atmosphere in Kattankudy, this concession is granted. But it must not be abused. However, at all other times helmet wearing is compulsory,” he said. “If you do not wear helmet when riding motorcycle, the Police will take legal action. “Drug menace in Batticaloa must be stopped. Stern action will be taken. Public should co-operate with police. “Do not try to bribe them. If any police officer received bribe or involved in any illegal activity, they would be punished,” he said. The meeting was also attended by Batticaloa Headquarters Police OIC Kingsley Gunasekera and Kattankudy Police Station Deputy OIC I. PO Ranasinghe. (Mohamed Azeez) dailymirror
