Keeping aside English, it's good to write in any language for future reference. This reminds me of Iceland, a not so posh country, but even the tourist guide who drives his own van is a graduate. He said lot of people in his country writes a book. Also I remember seeing somewhere about a country where the govt buys some 100 or so copies of a book if you write one.
