The carbonated soft drink is pressurized with CO2 at low temperatures so that they can get the most CO2 dissolved in the soft drink. This keeps it from going flat. After you throw the mentos in it allows the CO2 molecules dissolved to come together more easily such that they can diffuse out of the solution. However, it happens all too fast and that is what shoots the soda out of the bottle. Basically gas is behind it pushing it up. Consequently, if you throw the mentos in and seal the bottle. You have just made a grenade. A plastic bottle with a large pressure of gas inside just waiting to blow up. Like I said previously you can just throw dry ice in if you want it s all the same. Diet coke is used because it is less sticky, easier to clean up.(cpy paste hehe )</p></blockquote><p></p>
