People are being always surfing internet and trying to seek information as we are living in a sea of information. Because of the facilities provided by various information technology companies around the world people tend to trust outsiders or sometimes even strangers around the world. On the other hand there are individuals who trust web sources without any hesitation. Not only web sites but also social media have now become another information sharing method or can be considered as another mechanism to learn, also an information source. But the question is, do people really know how to filter information publish on social media. And do they know how to identify misleading information. There is a frame work developed by the California State University for internet users named as CRAAP. This framework discusses how to evaluate websites. Steps are Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy and Purpose, when searching information on websites. YouTube which has been initiated in February 2005 have become more popular and billions of people have used it to watch and share videos. Rather than conventional behaviour of information retrieval, this gives a new trend towards digital era. YouTube acts as a platform to connect and update people around the world. We thought to introduce a framework to evaluate YouTube. And also we are looking ways whether we could customize the CRAAP structure to evaluate documentaries available on YouTube. The COOTAA method has been developed as a framework to evaluate YouTube documentaries. Coverage, Objectives, Ownership, Timeliness, Audience and Authority were considered as best criteria to develop the COOTAA framework. The target group which we have focused is the General public as they highly utilize and mislead with whatever the information available. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"><span style="color: White">In order to test the frame work, authors study on Google trends to identify one of most popular documentaries at present. A search made on YouTube for “young elephant survives attack by 14 lions” filtered the original documentary which they have telecasted through the television, and applied this frame work. Again authors selected a sample of 25 documentaries on a current search term on “dengue fever” related to our country in order to apply the framework locally. Five documentaries were best fulfilled in all criteria in the frame work and found out as excellent documentaries on the topic out of the 25 in the sample.
