Around 250 Tiger cadres attacked us from the south. They captured 8 of our bunkers. We retaliated successfully and regained all 8 bunkers by 5.45 the following morning due to the high moral of my troops. They were beaming with confidence. I analyzed the situation and retaliated tactically on the advice of my Commanding Officers. We attacked the enemy till 6th. We came to know that around 750 Tiger cadres had attacked us during the 6 days of battle. I didn't have that number of soldiers under me. But our troops were high in moral so we were able to hold ground. We hunted down small enemy pockets that had infiltrated to attack us. Now we have total control of Sampur. Many Tiger members are surrendering, others have been killed. When we came to Sampur there were no civilians living here. The Army wants to create normalcy so that civilians could be resettled. We want people to return to Sampur. Our only hope and victory is to create a environment where people of all communities could live in peace and happiness. We are really happy of liberating Sampur. The LTTE has shown to the world their inhuman nature. They talk big but they dodge fighting with us face to face. When they can't face us they isolate civilians and flee. But they claim to be the sole representatives of the Tamils. There were many bunkers established by them. There were many obstacles in our path. But we proceeded with hardships overcoming all those barriers according to the tactics of our Commanding Officers. During the initial stages the enemy engaged us well but they couldn't sustain their attack amidst our firepower and battle strategy. They were short of manpower and ammunition. The Navy had blocked their sea movements so they couldn't bring reinforcements. So they were on the run. We seek and attacked them. Our only objective is to resettle civilians in Sampur and to safeguard the Trincomalee harbour. We know the importance of the strategically located Trinco harbour and the significance of Sampur. Some of our fellow soldiers are injured and in hospital. We miss them a lot and hope that they would recover soon."</p><p>"We were compelled to conduct clearance operations because of the inhuman actions of the LTTE.
