Neither. Nor is it befitting for him to have a gender. It's simply not in his nature. As to linguistics, Allah is the arabic word for "The God" or "The one who is worshiped". Arabic words have genders but "Allah" doesn't have one. But when we refer to an object with no known or unknown gender in arabic...we use "He" or the male pronoun. None of photos or statues. Islamic doctrine teaches that these aren't allowed. As to art, we have decorative art for the names of Allah. Like this: Allah is over the heavens. He is outside creation. He does not mix with creation. Although his presence is not in this world..his knowledge, sight, hearing and power encompasses all things. Why does it matter? Muslims weren't first there in a desert area or middle east. Muslims believe that the Adam and Eve (our parents) were muslim and they were prophets. God will allow them to live their life on Earth and he will test their faith. If they hold onto Allah then he will grant them paradise. Otherwise hell. Why? Because we should earn paradise through hard and good work and through the mercy of God. But then people went astray. So Allah continued to send messengers and prophets like Moses, Noah, Lut, Solomon, David, Jesus and then finally Muhammed. And Muhammed happen to live in the desert and it was divine wisdom that Allah chose him. Muhammed is the last messenger. Messengers brought with them revelation. Jesus brought the injil or the gospel which is part of the New Testament (perhaps). Muhammed gave us the Quran and his sunnah (traditions). Yes. He can see the future...he is All-Knowing. The Omnipotent being. But just because he knows doesn't mean he causes it. He knows whether you're going to hell or heaven but he can't force you to believe or not. We have a special type of free-will where some aspects of it is independent of the will of God. We choose. Allah knew about Israel and US and whatnot. But in him belongs all power. All Might. Whether he interferes or not is His choice. These are all there for a reason. As a test of faith. And faith alone. Allah is timeless. He is uncreated. He is eternal. He is the first and the last. He will always continue to exist even without time and beyond time. If you want further clarification or information then ask away!!
