I'll briefly answer. We have something called the sunnah of the prophet Muhammed. It's how he did things...his ways and stuff. How he did everything....dressed...urinated....drank...ate....governed.....fought.....taught....slept....breathed......etc etc Islamic doctrine says that if we do things the way he did it, then we will be rewarded for it. The Quran says to obey the prophet and follow him. So if we follow him it is good for us. The prophet always drank water while sitting (through in some occasions he stood). So we too try to drink water only while sitting. We called this the sunnah of the prophet and we are rewarded. There is a difference between commandments and the sunnah. The commandments are an obligation, for example to pray 5 times a day....fast during ramadan etc. This is not sunnah...this is a command. But sitting down while drinking water or urinating is not a command. God or the prophet didn't say to do it that way. It's just the sunnah - the way the prophet did things. To follow them would be good. But to not follow them would not be harm. There's nothing wrong, islamically speaking, to stand and drink or stand and piss. So in Islam we have the shariah and the sunnah. The sharia is the set of laws and rules in Islam and is open to interpretation. The sunnah is just a set of recommended rules....but not an obligation or law. So in Islam there is a lot said in how you live your life and stuff. So Islam is not merely a belief system but it is a deen...a way of life. The more rules you have the more God conscious you become and so the more spiritual you get. The muslim knows he's doing these stuff to please God. And these rules mean that God is always in their minds. There can be many wisdoms/hikma behind the rules like sitting and pissing/urinating. There could be health benefits (there obviously is). But in the edn of the day, it all boils down to the will of God or the command of God or the sunnah or way of the prophet. That's why we do it,.
