In last week's issue of 'Sunday Lanka' we had stated that there was an attempt to stop all operations in the North after the fall of main tiger camps at Vedithalathivu and Ilppankadavai and India was pressurizing the government to do so. Just as we stated the tiger organization has already officially declared that it was prepared for a ceasefire and the Indian government is now pressurizing the S.L. government to agree to this proposal.The Indian foreign secretary, defense secretary and defense advisor to the Indian government who visited this country two weeks ago at a discussion with the President had stated that operations in the North should be stopped and a ceasefire with the tiger organization should be arrived at if the Indian Prime Minister is to participate at the 15th summit of SAARC heads of state. The President has pointed out that halting of operations in the North would directly affect the stability of the government and it will have a negative effect on the results of the provincial council elections.  However, the Indian officials had not accepted the President's clarification and had insisted that military operations should be necessarily halted. Then the President had said to save his political stability the tiger organization should declare that they agree for a ceasefire first.This is how the tiger organization declared a unilateral ceasefire on the 22nd. Keeping with this plan the President, making a sudden visit to India, stated at Thirupathy that the government was ready to talk with the tiger organization.According to our sources the security commanders have received instructions to stop operations stating that a temporary agreement had been reached with tiger organization for the security in the South during the SAARC summit. However, reports from the battle front indicate that troops in all fronts are marching forward successfully and tiger organization, unable to face the troops are making a hasty retreat. Hence, the tiger organization has no way of defending their camps. This is why tiger organization lost Illuppankadawai a few days after it lost Vedithalathivu.
