This new generation CPU was designed in Israel for mobile computers at first, then brought to Desktop space in Q1 2006 as Conroe,  it featured EM64T ( renamed AMD64 technology), SSSE3, and a 65nm fabrication process, and featured 2 processing cores on the same silicon Die,  in short a core 2 is a extremely updated version of the Pentium III.
