They live here with us and refuse to return to North and East, because they find peace and freedom here. What were we celebrating? Victory from a 30 year war that dragged our country low, that killed thousands of our youth, thousands of civilians and priests. The cemeteries of these victims of war are dispersed throughout the country. So you don't see mass grave yards. It was a victory of Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims alike. Have you travelled in buses or trains? Ask your mother if she feels any relief now that there won't be anymore bomb blasts, and she can expect you to come home safely in the evening.Why was war so slow in the latter part-because we wanted to save Tamil civilians, eventhough we knew they mostly belonged to families of LTTE cardre. And how can we provide apartment complexes within such a short period of time? Aren't they lucky that they have a roof above their heads, get a meal for free, get medical attention which they didn't have under the LTTE? And now the government is building houses. They are giving loans and other allowances for these Tamil people to have a fresh start. What do the Tamil people in the rest of the country doing? Tamils who are working with me refuse to even offer voluntary service or donations, saying "there's no need for such." That's the attitude they have for their own people.</blockquote>
