Did the invaders burn the country down? Did they ruin what was already there in the country (If any) ? The marginal social benefit is much greater than the Marginal social costs of the colonization. Which shows the large positive externalities that were there, which SL is till enjoying todate. You cant expect the British or whoever to do all that for free...   Why the corruption and attitudes of the people was brought was becasue those are one of the key factors that can either ruin or build a country.Talking about your project(s) that were completed ahead of due time, how many similar cases are there? One can count all that with just the fingers in one hand, but talking about the British, in this context, how many major infrastructure add-ons did they do? How long were they ruling SL? And yet look at the quality of their works...     Whose point was it that SL would have found tea?  Even if Tea was there, how do you think the tea industry is still thriving? Its because of the techniques and administration together with the disciplenary that the British brought which is still taking the tea industry. Thank god it didnt go to the hands of the government much, becuase it is at the hand of the private sector, is why it is still continuing at this rate. But one would see the potential of the industry to grow at the hands of the British again. The War was an outbreak because of the misleadings by corrupted politicians, and their wrong guidance. Infact they were the ons who were urged to do so fr their private benefit. The war is a total political mayham rather than a cultural or ethnic problem. The sinhalese who were involved were pretty groppy enough to take in all the grass like cows, and think it was the correct thing to do by doing stuff like Black July. The grass-root cause of the war today was trigerred by Black July. Your perception about it being caused by the colonization is totally fake. There was a previous thread about this was and its cause in EK which clearly proved this, the link of it will be later posted.    Whose idea was to burn them down? Try doing it, I wonder if it had happened, whether S would be even in the maps today. Of course they used SL resources, but they had the brains. You need both to get something done. (Basic commerce, Factors of Production). Even maintaing them today in SL is a big deal , and the railway department is running under losses, still see how many cases of trains going off track are recorded per year? Results of good maintenance??Of course the SL would have never built a railway network so durable and long lasting like the British did. I am not putting down the SL and its community, but its the proven truth. You cant say no to it. Look at countries like India, how much of colonization did they face? Of course YES their country was "SUCKED OUT" as you would say, HEAVILY. Compared to India, SL is more fulfilled of natural resources and beauty, and climate. And both nations got independace almost togethr.Now look at their growth. their GDP, their wealth, power...despite being corrupted as SL also...</blockquote>
