&nbsp; The difficulty was in finding pictures of that period, without which&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; phrases like “crackdown” don’t mean much. I reckon it was, by far, the&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; worst period in SL’s post-independence history, and it’s still not&nbsp;&nbsp; been&nbsp;&nbsp; really dealt with yet.

&nbsp; thanks for such a detailed account. I had been looking for details on&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; that period. I was an infant in that period so dont remember much&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; except the fear phycosis our parents lived with. 
I had looked for Chandraperuma’s and Rohan Guneratne’s books here in SL, but couldnt find one. 
Thanks for the pics. I wonder how u found them. I have such a serious&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; desire to learn abt this period. It is a shame our society as a whole&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; hasnt mourned for our dead. I believe for us to proceed as a country&nbsp; we&nbsp; &nbsp; need to acknoledge this period and mourn the dead and understand&nbsp; our&nbsp;&nbsp; own&nbsp; short comings. We havent done that. Our society needs to weep&nbsp; for&nbsp;&nbsp; the&nbsp; ones who died. 
 Learning abt this makes it difficult to pick a culprit. It is almost&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; impossible to choose who the bad guy was whther it was the army or&nbsp; the&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; JVP. After all everything is the result is policies by governments&nbsp; of&nbsp; &nbsp; this country decades back that created a JVP and even an LTTE. 
 we need to make movies and write on this period to make our ppl more aware of this.

&nbsp; Hi Sach, Thanks and it’s for those reasons that I decided to write&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; about this horrible era. I found those books at Viith Yapa, many years&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; ago and they appear to be out of print. Perhaps you could try a&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; University library? cheers, M

I had been looking for details on that period. I was an infant in that period so dont remember much except the fear phycosis our parents lived with. I had looked for Chandraperuma’s and Rohan Guneratne’s books here in SL, but couldnt find one. Thanks for the pics. I wonder how u found them. I have such a serious desire to learn abt this period. It is a shame our society as a whole hasnt mourned for our dead. I believe for us to proceed as a country we need to acknoledge this period and mourn the dead and understand our own short comings. We havent done that. Our society needs to weep for the ones who died. Learning abt this makes it difficult to pick a culprit. It is almost impossible to choose who the bad guy was whther it was the army or the JVP. After all everything is the result is policies by governments of this country decades back that created a JVP and even an LTTE. we need to make movies and write on this period to make our ppl more aware of this.
