Message: <blockquote data-quote="ganeshrox" data-source="post: 12807120" data-attributes="member: 378322">Academic Facilities at Sri Lanka's defence university will be opened to general public   Mon, Jun 4, 2012, 12:35 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. <img src="http://www.lankapage.com/pix_small/KDU.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" />  Jun 03, Colombo:  Sri Lanka soon will open  the doors of its defence university for the general public as well with  the cabinet granting approval to a proposal made by President Mahinda  Rajapaksa in his capacity as Defense Minister.  The cabinet has approved the government to obtain a loan of Rs 750  million from the Bank of Ceylon to expand the post graduate facilities  of the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (JKDU).   The Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPGS) of the JKDU initially  offered M.Sc and B.Sc degree programs and many other diploma and  certificate courses for serving officers of the Armed forces and the  Police and the non-commissioned officers of the forces to obtain higher  educational qualifications.  With the end of the armed-conflict in 2009 demand had risen for the  University to offer new programs and accordingly, programs such as  Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, MBA in E - Governance, MBA  in Logistic Management, Master of Laws, B.Sc  in Management and several  other Diploma courses are being introduced from 2012.  The new programs will be opened to the general public and the private  sector with reasonable fees which will be beneficial to all Sri Lankans  as a nation, the government said.   The Government has acquired a block of land adjoining the JKDU and the  credit facility from the Bank of Ceylon will utilized to construct a new  six- storied building complex for the IPGS.  The institute, established as an academy in 1981 and later elevated to  university status, has the full membership of the Association of  Commonwealth Universities of the UK. source:<a href="http://www.colombopage.com/archive_12/Jun04_1338750333CH.php" target="_blank">http://www.colombopage.com/archive_12/Jun04_1338750333CH.php</a></blockquote>
