Neither party cares the fate of the Muttur Muslims. 04 Aug:Ten Muslim civilians who were seeking refuge in Arabic College Muttur were killed in an artillery shell that hit the college on 3rd of July around 1.00pm. Sri Lanka Government (SLG) accuses the LTTE for the attack whilst the LTTE accuses the government. It is still too early to find out who the culprits are but it is already late to safeguard the lives of the civilians who are stranded amid heavy fighting between the SLG and the LTTE. Around 9,000 Muslim civilians, men, women and children have hunted refuge in the schools and mosques in Muttur town since the fighting between SLG and LTTE broke out in Muttur Tuesday night. People from different parts of Muttur have moved towards an identified single place to keep away from being targeted by the warring parties. Civilians are seeking possibilities to leave the area as soon as possible. But, they have no access to either road or sea transport due to heavy fighting. Sources from the area said that a food shortage can be created in the area as supplies are not coming since the war broke out. One hour ceasefire between the LTTE and SLG allowed the dead and injured be evacuated. Neither party seems serious about the fate of the civilians. It can specially be because the displaced are Muslims. Muslims have problems with the LTTE and the government of Sri Lanka has continuously utilized them against the Tamil struggle. For the SLG Muslim community is only a pawn to be used against Tamils. News that comes from eastern battlefront is utter lies. SLG says that it has gained full control of the Muttur area and on the other front it has about to open the Mavilaru sluice gate. But the reality is that the SLG forces are not advancing if not retreating. Either party does not divulge the true facts of the war. But what we exactly know is that there is fierce fighting still raging. Sri Lanka government has indirectly shown the willingness to cease hostilities on the condition the sluice gates of Mavilaru opened. ' The Colombo government "has shown willingness" to consider the demands by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in return for the reopening of the key reservoir in the Trincomalee area now under rebel control, Norway's Jon Hanssen-Bauer said on Wednesday,' reported Jaim Espantaleon of AP news agency. Norwegian Special Envoy for Sri Lanka, Jon Hanssen-Bauer is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on 4th of August and he is the only ray hope who is capable to break a deal at the moment. But LTTE seems to have long time strategy in its warfare. It has gained a moral validity to its moves with the SLG's blatant violations of ceasefire and the stupid operations it launched merely to appease the Sinhala Buddhist chauvinist forces. Mavilaru crisis which the government and its chauvinist allies decided to utilize for political and military advancement has backfired. LTTE has utilized the challenge posed on them to prove its capabilities making the situation ever worse after the signing of the ceasefire agreement in 2002. (Source - LankaLeft)
