[QUOTE="TΞΞNSTAR™, post: 2829760, member: 88129"] Linux has come a long way lately. Many people recommend Ubuntu. Personally, I hate the Gnome interface Ubuntu is bundled with. I like the KDE desktop much better, so you could try Kubuntu. Personally, I use openSuse. I have 10.2 on my home PC and 10.3 on my laptop and work computer. I find Yast a very easy way to manage installation and deletion of software packages. it also makes administering the system very easy. Linux has so-so support for NTFS. Your Linux partition will use either reiser or ext3. However you will be able to browsw your Windows partition and copy files from Windows to Linux. You will not be able to do it the other way around. One thing that will be a pain is that you will have to do some extra tweaking and downloading to get mp3 and wmv files to play and you will have to install a technically illegal piece of software to play DVDs (though I can't see anyone bringing up charges for using illegal software for legal uses, like playing a DVD.) You may also have to do some fiddling to get 3d acceleration and wireless card to work. Linux is a great OS. Not perfect, but it is certainly better than Windows. Just the tools available alone make Linux better (in my opinion). Commercial software is scarce, but the number of free packages is huge and the quality is usually excellent. The only time I boot up Windows is to play some games, but I don't do that very often. Linux does have some commercial games available (e.g. Quake Wars: Enemy Terrritory) in addition to the free ones.
