I did all I could to save PN government, says Muhyiddin in final address | Free Malaysia Today (FMT) In a sombre final address to the nation, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he did all he could to save the Perikatan Nasional-led administration, but it was not meant to be. In a televised address, Muhyiddin announced that he and the Cabinet had resigned as demanded by the Federal Constitution as he no longer enjoyed the support of the majority of MPs. “I heard the pleas from millions of Malaysians, asking me not to resign. I did everything I could until the final moment to save this government, at least until we have finished dealing with Covid-19 and the vaccination programme.” But, he said, it was fated that this would be his last day in office. Muhyiddin reiterated that he had been threatened politically to intervene in ongoing court cases of high-profile individuals. However, he said he would not work with kleptocrats to undermine the justice system or go against the constitution just to hold on to power. “I am always concerned about the fate of my brothers and sisters because I consider you as my own children. Because of that, I emphasised that the welfare of my brothers and sisters is the priority of the Perikatan Nasional government, which is a government that cares for the people.” He thanked his Cabinet colleagues and other senior government officials, such as attorney-general Idrus Harun, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah “and other officials whom I cannot name one by one”, for all their help in managing the pandemic. He also thanked his wife and family for their endless support, as well as those who had backed him within PN.
