Mangala comes under fire SLFP (M) Convenor and MP Mangala Samaraweera came under fire from the government in Parliament yesterday for the critical remarks he made against Army Commander Sarath Fonseka at a recent news conference. Mr. Samaraweera has reportedly said that Lt. Gen. Fonseka was not fit even to be the commander of the Salvation Army. UPFA General Secretary and Education Minister Susil Premajayantha made a special statement to the House saying the government regretted such a statement against the Army Commander who successfully led the security forces to a series of victories on the war front. Mr. Premajayantha said the military forcers which liberated the entire eastern province under the command of Gen. Fonseka, captured Pooneryn recently. He asked how a Sri Lankan could criticize the Army Commander in such a context. The Minister sought time to make this statement against Mr. Samaraweera asking Fisheries Minister Felix Perera to cut short his conclusion speech on the committee stage debate of his Ministry. Mr. Perera cut short his speech by five minutes so that Mr. Premajayantha could make the statement.
