Normally the ID plate is installed to withstand damage.  But while dismantling a plane it is deliberately removed Several serial numbers found on the flaperon were sent to match the records. Out of the twelve serial numbers sent for investigation, only one matched with MH370.But the Inmarsat estimates are not far off from those derived from the WSPR method by Richard Godfrey.
