B Weragama said. According to the director the exact magnitude of the earthquake was unknown but said that the quake was not of a serious nature and there have been no reported injuries. However, some homes have been damaged, he said.   The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said the magnitude of the earthquake may be around 3 on the Richter scale. "The earthquake was not an after effect of the tsunami that the country experienced in 2004. He said that the 2004 tsunami which took place in a big plate boundary occurred 1500 km from the Bay of Bengal" Geologist Nalin de Silva said. He further elaborated that the quake may have been induced by the high pressure in the reservoirs.
