That's where in the case you want to apply directly to a 1st fortune 100 companies as an intern.Otherwise you have to start from Associate level and complete your masters and when you are in your mid career you will be joining a good company like Intel,Microsoft, HP etc.You can't compare a research with an engineer. That's the main difference. Mid career is all about some research. Learning new things. etc etc.<hr />I think he is targeting directly about the job market and the discipline.
