SLFP to decide on holding elections to 5 PCs [TamilNet, Monday, 25 August 2008, 18:18 GMT] The central working committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is to meet during the weekend to decide its political strategy about the question of holding elections to the Western, Southern, North Central, Uva and Central Provincial Councils in the south within next three months. The meeting has been summoned in the wake of the outright victory for the UPFA in Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council (SPC) and North Central Provincial Council (NCPC) last Saturday, political sources said. Political sources said President Mahinda Rajapakse is very keen in dissolving and holding elections to the Uva Provincial Council (UPC) and North Western Provincial Council (NWPC). If the SLFP central working committee agrees to the suggestion by Mahinda Rajapakse, the UPC and NWPC would be dissolved in the next two weeks. Elections to these PCs would be held by November, political sources said. -tamilnet i was jst going thruu da tamilnet site reading da news abt da harbour attack today and this headline caught my attension. it was only today morning that i read dat our president has said dat havin an election is waste of time and lo i find a news saying more elections to be held!! wonder weather this news is true or not!
