Anything help someone.As i said earlier ATA is the standard, and the one you mean by ATA is known as IDE or PATA. SATA is faster than PATA.AGP is for graphics only. That part is right. But PCIe slots are kind of universal. I.e it combine the functionalities of AGP and PCI into one standard.PCIe slots connects to both the north and southbridge. The slots that connect to the northbridge are usually for graphic or related cards (special capture cards/hardware encoders). The reason being these slots usually run at full speed (16x) or half speed (8x).The ones that connect to southbridge typically do same thing as PCI slots did. But usually they run at a slower rate either 1x 2x or 4x. And usualy used for LAN cards, RAID cards, SCSI controllers, TV Tuners etc.The problem with North/Southbridge is that on newer systems you don't get a northbridge. It is integrated into the CPU itself.
